25th Anniversary of First Australian Ascent of Everest

On October 3, 1984, Tim Macartney-Snape and Greg Mortimer became the first Australians to reach the summit of Mt Everest. The team of just five climbers summited 'alpine style' - carrying their own gear and without supplementary oxygen - establishing a new and difficult route on the mountain's north face.

The Australian Himalayan Foundation is holding a dinner on September 18th, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this first Australian ascent of Mt Everest.

Life after death on Mt. Everest

The story of Lincoln Hall's survival on Everest in April 2006 is one of epic proportions. Blessed with a perfect summit day, it was upon the long descent back to base camp that things began to quickly unravel and turn horribly wrong. Ex-Outdoor Australia editor, Hall is spending some time in Sydney and Melbourne's The North Face stores this month to tell his incredible story.
